Speaking on the Soccer AM YouTube channel, Declan Rice has shared details of a conversation he’s had with David Moyes about playing in a new role.

We saw at Euro 2020 that Rice can be more of an attacking threat when he’s given the freedom to roam further up the pitch, and that’s something he’s spoken with Moyes about.

What’s been said?

Soccer AM’s Tubes asked Rice if we may see him move into a more advanced role, and the midfielder says he’s already spoken to the manager and his coaches about this possibility.

“You know what I’ve had this conversation with the manager here and a few of his coaches. I don’t think I can play really high up, I don’t think that would suit me, but I feel as though I could play as more of an 8, a box to box player, because I can definitely start to score more goals as well, I’ve got that in me for sure,” Rice said.

Even more dangerous

Rice is already one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, but he could become even more dangerous if he moves into this new role.

If one thing is lacking in the Englishman’s game it’s goals, and if he plays in more of a box to box role, he will get more chances to score.

We know he can strike a ball well. After all, he’s scored a couple of screamers in the past, so using him in a more attacking role could be wise.

This is a change that could be coming this season at West Ham.
