Jimmy-Floyd Hasslebaink was at a loss to describe Serge Aurier in Tottenham Hotspur’s defeat this afternoon.
Spurs slumped to a 2-0 defeat by Brendan Rodgers’s Leicester City in North London.
Jamie Vardy fired the Foxes ahead on the stroke of half time after the Tottenham right-back barged Wesley Fofana over inside the box.
It was a needless challenge from the former Paris Saint-Germain defender – and Hasselbaink, speaking on Sky Sports’ half-time coverage, was left speechless to describe what Aurier must have been thinking.
He said: “It really was a silly challenge from Aurier. Sissoko loses a ball he cannot lose and then Aurier… I’ve got no words. Why in God’s name do you need to do that in the last minute. It’s a rugby tackle!”
This is the big problem with Aurier.
Yes, Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has improved him in comparison to how he played under Mauricio Pochettino, but the Ivory Coast international is still prone to moments of sheer stupidity.
It has cost the Lilywhites in the past and it looks like it’ll continue to do so.
