Alasdair Gold has dropped an update regarding Antonio Conte‘s contract at Tottenham Hotspur.

The North Londoners are definitely heading in the right direction under Conte but it would help if the Spurs players knew he was as committed to them as they are to him.

At the moment, the 53-year-old manager is only contracted to Tottenham until the end of this season but everybody from Daniel Levy to the supporters will be delighted if he decides to extend that deal.

But it turns out that it’s the Lilywhites who have the option to extend his contract – and pretty much whenever they like.

That is according to Gold, who exclusively covers Tottenham for Football London.

He told his YouTube channel: “Digging around, I’ve got confirmation today that it’s Tottenham that hold this option. So Tottenham are the ones who can decide to extend, and they can do so whenever they choose to do it before the end of the contract.

“So that gives Conte a little bit more protection if the side like let’s say Juventus do come in, they’d have to pay a lot more money. But from what I understand, Conte seems to be quite happy at the moment. He seems to be quite settled.”

Gold is as reliable as anybody when it comes to Tottenham news and this, if true, is definitely a massive boost.

It might not keep Conte at the club any longer, because a personality like this is always liable to quit whether he has two months left on his contract or five years.

But as Gold mentioned, it does protect Spurs financially because the level of compensation will be much higher if Juventus – who have been linked – decide that they want him to replace the struggling Massimiliano Allegri.

But for now, Conte seems very content at Tottenham and he won’t be abandoning this project anytime soon.
