Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that Zenit Saint Petersburg want to buy Newcastle United target, Gabriel Barbosa, ‘outright’, as he told the Transfer Show on Sky Sports.
The Sky reporter claimed that two ‘unnamed Premier League clubs’ are also showing interest in buying the 25-year-old from Flamengo.
The all-action striker is one of the early talking points during this January transfer window, with Newcastle seemingly being one of the English sides keen on his talents, as reported by 90 min.
Eddie Howe needs reinforcements all across the pitch, as well as in the forward areas.
A couple of weeks ago, Newcastle weren’t probably in an almighty rush to add a new face to their striking ranks because they had Callum Wilson.
But given that he is facing a spell on the sidelines, then they probably have to put their foot on the accelerator in their quest to bring in a number nine.
If the heavy pockets of the north east club want Barbosa, then they better act quick because, as transfer expert Sheth explained, others are circling for his talents.
“I have been told from a contact that Zenit Saint Petersburg have made a tentative offer to buy Gabriel Barbosa outright,” said Sheth.
“I have also been told that two unnamed Premier League clubs are showing an interest in potentially buying Gabriel Barbosa – this looks like it could be an outright purchase.”
It seems as though Kieran Trippier is going to be the first name off the blocks at St James’ Park.
That’s a pretty strong start given their current situation and Trippier’s level of experience.
But, at the end of the day, he is an ageing defender and the further up the field Newcastle go, the more expensive it’s going to get.
Whether it’s Barbosa or another hard-hitting striker, the Magpies will find that, all of a sudden, clubs will start to inflate prices when they come knocking on their door.
