Tottenham Hotspur boss Nuno Espirito Santo has welcomed the idea of the club going along with the new safe standing experiment.
According to Sky Sports News, Tottenham and every other Premier League and Championship club will be able offer standing areas to their supporters on match days.
It has been 25 years since fans in the top tiers of English football have been allowed to stand in their respective stadia.
A pilot programme will take place between January 1 and the end of the season to see whether the change is viable in the long term.
And the Tottenham boss has thrown his support behind it, claiming the club’s £1 billion stadium is ‘ready and safe’ from their end.
Nuno, who joined Spurs as Jose Mourinho’s replacement this past summer, told Football London: “I’ve been told, I know that our stadium is ready and is up to our fans to decide how. But in terms of safety and security everything is ready, and safe. Standing and seeing a match… I like to see the crowd standing up, honestly.”
Nuno’s side are gearing up for a North London derby against Arsenal at the Emirates tomorrow.
And interestingly, Tottenham’s first Premier League home game after the safe standing programme is a visit of the Gunners, who travel across the city on January 15.
