Transfer insider Ian McGarry has claimed that Arsenal have made contact to sign Odsonne Edouard from Celtic already ahead of the summer window, on the Transfer Window Podcast.

Arsenal have begun to be linked with the Celtic front man in recent times, with Edouard seemingly on their radar.

And sources have now said that the Gunners have indeed made their first move to sign the Frenchman.

Celtic have apparently come back and told Arsenal that they would be willing to offload him for around £22 million.

And Arsenal plan to fund the move by selling Alexandre Lacazette.

“We are the Transfer Window understand there is another striker on the market [as well as Erling Haaland] for significantly less in terms in transfer fee, but potentially someone who could be just as effective – that is Odsonne Edouard of Celtic,” McGarry said.

“He is someone who is available for around 25 million euros. It is also our information that Arsenal are a club who have made a solid enquiry with regards to a transfer with the next window in the summer.

“It’s also the case that Celtic who are under interim charge of John Kennedy are looking to sell players as well, possibly up to three players and Edouard is one of the main and possibly one of the most valuable assets at Parkhead.

“What I’ve been told is that they’re willing to market and sell Lacazette, who is of a similar style but aged 29 and the outlay that Arsenal have put in to him in terms of transfer fee and wages is someone they want to cash in on with regards to a move out.”

Arsenal would be trusting in a more youthful approach if they were to replace Lacazette with Edouard.

It could be a potentially wise switch though, as while Lacazette is reaching the twilight of his career, Edouard has plenty of room to develop.

The Celtic front man, who was described as ‘unplayable’ by ex-Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson (One Football), has proven to be an adept finisher in recent times, and he also links the play well.

And he could be well suited to a Premier League move, after showing such promise in Scotland over a number of seasons.
