Speaking to Off The Ball, John Giles has been discussing Antonio Conte and the job he is doing at Tottenham.
Spurs have not been playing well as of late, but they continue to grind out results, they remain third in the Premier League and they somehow won their Champions League group.
Giles believes that a lot of Spurs’ success is down to Conte – heralding the work that the Italian is doing in north London, stating that if he’s backed next summer, Spurs will win trophies.
Interestingly, Giles also noted that he believes that Conte is a manager made for Manchester United, claiming that the Red Devils would be incredibly successful if Conte managed to get a bit of fight out of their talented squad.

Conte made for United
Giles spoke about the Spurs boss.
“They don’t have brilliant players. He hasn’t spent a lot of money and what he’s getting from them, only Conte could get from them,” Giles said.
“That’s why I’ve always said he would have been made for Manchester United, if he got the same attitude from the talented Manchester United players, and maybe the new man at United will get there, Conte has got there with Spurs without spending a lot of money. This guy is a real pro and they’re hard to beat, only he can do that with the lack of talent that he has. If Levy puts his hand in his pocket I think he’ll take them to winning situations,” Giles said.
Would it work?
Antonio Conte is one of the best managers in the world, but there are serious questions around whether or not he’d work at Manchester United.
For a start, his tactics are very unique, so the current squad would have to be reshaped. Secondly, Conte is not afraid of clashing with the owners, and the Glazer family probably wouldn’t like that.
Yes, the Italian knows how to instil passion into a squad, but until very recently, this United squad was noted for being one of the most toxic teams in the Premier League, so it’s hard to accurately say how Conte would’ve gotten on.
Is Conte a manager worthy of a job at Old Trafford? Of course he is, but so was Jose Mourinho and look how that worked out.
It’s almost impossible to define what being a good fit for Manchester United is in this day and age.
