Newcastle United youngster Ivan Toney is currently on loan at Barnsley

Newcastle United striker Ivan Toney is keen to extend his loan spell at Barnsley, according to his quotes in the Shields Gazette.

Toney has only recently completed a move to the League One side, but he is already contemplating prolonging his stay.

At the moment, the former Northampton Town frontman is set to spend the next month with the Tykes, but he is hoping to impress enough to make his stint a longer one.

“Hopefully, I can add goals to the side,” the young striker said.

“I didn’t manage to get on the score sheet on Tuesday, but hopefully I will on Saturday if I’m playing.

“I thought coming here was the best option for me. I’m happy to be here and hopefully become a big signing for the club, and if it all goes well, I’ll be looking to extend that.

“I want to add positivity to the side, not that it isn’t here already, and spice things up a bit.

“I’d like to try and turn things around while I’m here, it’s a great club and it should be doing better.”

Newcastle have been keen for Toney to go out on loan and get some regular action, despite his impressive form for their development side.

Toney was signed by the Magpies during the summer transfer window, and he has made rapid strides.

The 19-year-old has already been rewarded with a Premier League appearance, and he also won the Premier League under-21 Player of the Month award in September.

However, Newcastle feel that his development will be better served away from St. James’ Park, and Toney appears to be enjoying life at Barnsley, after making his debut for Lee Johnson’s side in midweek.
