Newcastle loanee thrilled by the club’s return to the top flight.
Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez
Newcastle United made light work of Preston North End last night to earn promotion back to the Premier League.
The club’s stay in the Championship was always likely to be just temporary with Rafa Benitez at the helm, and the Spaniard has not disappointed.
Newcastle United’s Ivan Toney
Among those celebrating was Toon loanee Ivan Toney, who is currently at Scunthorpe United.
He took to Twitter to congratulate his teammates upon their return to the top flight.
Toney’s use of ‘we’ strongly indicates he still feels part of the squad, and hopes to be involved next season.
While he was not seen as ready for Benitez’s side this season, his form at Scunthorpe gives him a chance.
Scunthorpe United’s Ivan Toney scores their first goal
Toney has scored 12 goals for the Iron since moving on loan, and will head back to Newcastle hoping to catch Rafa Benitez’s eye in pre-season.
With Premier League football at stake, Toney will know it could be the most important summer of his life.
