The Caen hitman would be a useful addition to the Tottenham Hotspur squad this season.
Spurs performed admirably last term, with their second placed Premier League finish highlighting their progress, but Mauricio Pochettino’s lack of activity in the transfer window thus far is beginning to frustrate Tottenham fans.
It is glaringly obvious that the Lilywhites need strengthening as a squad, if they are to challenge for major honours on all fronts, and if they do not do just that, there is a real danger that stagnation will creep in, whilst all of their rivals get stronger.
One particular area where Spurs need to address is the forward department, with Vincent Janssen proving to be quite clearly not good enough at the highest level. Whilst many fans will still say he deserves a chance, if Tottenham truly want yo succeed, they need to be ruthless, and admit that signing the former AZ Alkmaar man was a mistake.
Ivan Santini in action
With this in mind, the signing of a more established forward who can perform as an able back-up for Harry Kane must be a high priority at Spurs this summer, and an interesting option for them could be Caen forward Ivan Santini, who was in top form in Ligue 1 last term.
The 28-year-old scored 16 goals in 36 outings for his club, but his overall game, and the manner in which he brought his teammates into play was just as impressive as his goalscoring antics.
Standing at 6ft 3in, the Croatia international possesses a powerful, burly physique – one that is ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.
He is incredibly strong aerially, and would provide Pochettino with a totally different threat to the ones currently at his disposal.
Santini has just two years remaining on his current deal in France, so Caen could be tempted into selling the striker, unless he agrees a new contract with them.
And if Pochettino manages to bring the Croatian to north London, it could turn out to be the signing that makes the difference between second and first this season.
