Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to react after Aston Villa had a goal harshly disallowed during their FA Cup defeat to Manchester United.
What’s the story?
Well, the Villans managed to find an equaliser in the 50th minute thanks to Danny Ings, who bundled Ezri Konsa’s header over the line.
However, Jacob Ramsey was adjudged to have blocked off Edinson Cavani while in an offside position, leading to Michael Oliver disallowing the goal.
VAR also checked for handball as Old Trafford waited over three minutes for the officials to make a decision, which is far too long.
It’s as if those in charge were desperate to find an issue with Aston Villa’s goal, something Lineker described as “rather strange” – we agree.

Unfortunately, Steven Gerrard couldn’t find another route back into the game for the Villans, and Manchester United escaped with a 1-0 win.
Aston Villa vs Manchester United shouldn’t have used VAR
In our view, it’s ridiculous that only FA Cup games held at Premier League grounds are using VAR, whereas matches held outside of top-flight stadiums are not.
Surely, it has to be a level playing field across the entire competition.
For example, had Ings scored his goal at Blackburn’s Ewood Park, it would’ve stood, and the Villans may now be in the fourth round.
It makes no sense whatsoever – the FA should either introduce it to the entire footballing ladder, or remove it from the FA Cup.
Even if that change is made, it’s too late to benefit Aston Villa – Gerrard has every right to be livid after last night’s messy officiating.
