Speaking on the Seaman Says Podcast, Paul Robinson has claimed that Liverpool’s Alisson is a better goalkeeper than Manchester City’s Ederson.

Both goalies are two of the best in the world, but according to Robinson, Alisson’s shot-stopping ability just about puts him ahead of his fellow Brazilian.

Indeed, while Robinson acknowledges that Ederson has helped to revolutionise the goalkeeping position, he says that Alisson is better because he can keep the ball out of the net more effectively.

What’s been said?

Robinson spoke about Ederson and Alisson.

“For me, I’d pick Alisson. I think he’s more of a traditional goalkeeper. Ederson is fantastic, and some of the saves he makes, he and others have revolutionised the game with how they play as sort of a floating centre-half, but Alisson, the art of goalkeeping is sometimes missed now, the job of a goalkeeper is to keep the ball out of the net, and Alisson does that, he has a presence and he makes key saves when they’re needed. He commands his box more than Ederson, and he’s more of a shot-stopper you can rely on and depend on. For me, it’s very close, but I’d pick Alisson,” Robinson said.

Tough decision

It’s almost impossible to pick between these two brilliant goalkeepers, but unfortunately, Brazil boss Tite has to make that decision this winter as the Qatar World Cup looms.

To be fair, it’s not a bad position to be in, having to choose between two of the best goalkeepers in the world, but that decision is an incredibly tough one.

On one hand, Ederson gives you a dimension that no other goalkeeper does with his long-range passing, but as a counter-argument, Alisson is arguably the best shot-stopper on the planet.

It will be interesting to see what Brazil do with these two in Qatar.
