Speaking on his YouTube channel, Alasdair Gold has been discussing Antonio Conte’s touchline conduct against Manchester United this week.
The Italian oversaw a poor performance at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening as his Spurs team slumped to a 2-0 defeat against the Red Devils.
There was an element of defeatism around Spurs’ performance against United, and according to Gold, Conte was acting differently on the touchline, often heading back into the dugout rather than standing on the edge of his technical area as he usually does.

Conte’s different demeanour
The journalist spoke about how Conte was acting at Old Trafford.
“You could tell how frustrated Conte was. Conte was quite funny on the touchline actually, you know that they have those brick dugouts at Old Trafford, there were times when he went into those dugouts away from the pitch, which is unlike him, it’s almost like he felt defeated as well. Let’s be honest, he was still on the touchline the majority of the time, but he did go back, and you rarely see that in most games,” Gold said.
Old Trafford architecture
Conte did spend a bit of time over in the dugout during the game at Old Trafford, but perhaps that’s just down to the architecture of the stadium more than anything else.
Indeed, unlike most grounds, the Old Trafford dugouts are raised and if you want to chat with your subs or your coaches, you have to go up those steps and into the dugout.
Gold says that Conte may have felt defeated at Old Trafford, but perhaps this was more of a by-product of the circumstances rather than the result.
Old Trafford is a strange stadium and perhaps that’s why Conte spent more time than usual in the dugout.
