Nigeria manager Gernot Rohr is disappointed to see Ahmed Musa miss out on a move to Premier League strugglers West Bromwich Albion, speaking to BBC Sports Africa.
It’s four months since the experienced forward terminated his contract with Middle Eastern outfit Al Nassr.
But Musa is no closer to sealing his dream return to the Premier League.
The former Leicester City winger, who once joined the Foxes for a club-record £16 million, had been training with West Brom but the Baggies eventually decided against offering him a contract.
In quotes reported by the Birmingham Mail, Sam Allardyce admitted West Brom didn’t have the funds to sign the three-time Russian league champion.
“We’d already brought four players in so it didn’t fall within our budget any more,” Allardyce said.
“More players would have had to have left to have funded that one. It’s a shame Musa didn’t get in or come in earlier. Obviously, because of covid, he couldn’t make it.
“He may have been one of the four we brought in but, because he was the fifth, it couldn’t get done.”
Allardyce, it seems, wasn’t the only manager left frustrated after Musa missed out on a second spell in the Premier League.
“It’s unfortunate it didn’t work out at West Brom but I believe Musa will find another club soon,” says Rohr, Nigeria coach since 2016.
“He has the ambition to get back as quickly as he can to play football again at club level.
“I have no doubt he can discover his best form, the happiness and joy to play again. This will be good for us because we can get to see that impact in our squad.”
