Michael Owen has stated that Sadio Mane’s assist for Mo Salah’s goal during Liverpool’s 4-0 win against Manchester United was ‘unbelievable’, as he told Premier League Productions (19/04/22).

From the get-go at Anfield, Liverpool, who are still chasing all four trophies this season, ran riot against their bitter rivals to move to the top of the Premier League table.

They did all of it in style, including the likes of Mane, Luis Diaz and Thiago Alcantara all dazzling the home crowd.

During one stage of the first half, at 1-0, when the ball was fed to Mane, he hooked the ball behind him, first-time, to the on-rushing Salah who added Liverpool’s second.

It was a moment of brilliance from the 30-year-old, who has taken his game to another level ever since he won the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal.

Owen was left gobsmacked by what he saw from Mane, including the first touch from Salah before he scored the first of his two on the night.

“It is unbelievable,” said Owen. “We spoke about Man United’s bad defending for the first one.

“But there’s not much you can do about the second. Yes, you can say Dalot is sleeping a little bit. But what a ball.

“If you actually pause it as Sadio Mane is about to hit it, it’s not even on!

“Either way, I spoke about his (Salah’s) weak foot a minute ago with that ball across (for Liverpool’s opening goal). What about that for a first touch with his weak foot. Bouncing just in front. The finish is the finish.”

As wrong as it is going for Man United, it’s going very right for those in Liverpool colours.

To think that the club’s second-highest goalscorer this season – Diogo Jota – hasn’t had a start for a number of weeks now is crazy.

But, with the fixture coming in thick and fast, the Portugal international is going to be needed.

Liverpool will host their neighbours Everton on Sunday in the Merseyside derby, so it will be interesting if Jota comes into the XI for that match.
