Lucas Moura believes it is ‘unbelievable’ that Tottenham Hotspur failed to turn their many chances into a vital second goal during Sunday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat at West Ham United, as he told the Spurs website.
For all those questioning the desire and commitment of Jose Mourinho’s men, the look on Lucas’s face at full-time proves that he, at least, cares deeply about the club’s current predicament.
A run of five defeats in six games means that, in the blink of an eye, Spurs have gone from title dark-horses to ninth in the table, two points above arch-rivals Arsenal.
Goals from Michail Antonio and Jesse Lingard consigned Tottenham to yet another loss at the London Stadium yesterday, with Jose Mourinho once again ruing missed chances at one end and defensive blunders at the other.
Spurs ended the game with 20 shots on goal, compared to just four from West Ham.
And Lucas, whose second-half header threatened to spark a comeback that never arrived, was at a loss to explain why Tottenham failed to pick up at least one point at the home of their arch rivals.
“It’s unbelievable!” sighed the clearly dejected Brazilian when asked how Tottenham lost to a team who mustered 16 fewer attempts.

“We need to score more. We created many occasions but we need to score. But let’s learn from this game and do better in the next.
“The feeling is bad. We are disappointed because I think we deserved more – a better result. I think we did well but it was not enough. The two goals we conceded were our mistakes.
“But I think we showed a good character.”
Heung-Min Son hit the post, Harry Kane was denied by a fine Lukasz Fabianski save while Gareth Bale, who performed like a man possessed off the bench, came within a whisker of finding the top corner with a stunning long-range volley.
But you won’t find many West Ham fans caring about that today. The Hammers were ruthless and remorseless when it really mattered.
