Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Jurgen Klopp has been surprisingly critical of Trent Alexander-Arnold’s performance against Newcastle.
Alexander-Arnold made headlines against the Magpies with his unbelievable second-half goal.
The right-back hit an absolute pearler into the top corner from all of 30 yards, and while everyone has been purring about his goal, Klopp seemingly wasn’t overly impressed by the full-back’s all-around showing.
What’s been said about Alexander-Arnold?
Klopp was full of praise for Trent’s showings this season, but he did have a bit of constructive criticism after Thursday’s game.
“It’s tough, he’s still young and it’s an intense period. He didn’t play his best game last night. It was one of his best goals, but it wasn’t his best game. It’s completely normal, and even in your not best games you have to get through. He had two outstanding moments with his goal and the tackle when he won the ball against Fraser. Even on a night when not everything is clicking you can be a decisive man, and that’s what he was last night,” Klopp said.

High standards
Could you imagine scoring a Goal of the Season contender and still being told you could have played better?
Most managers probably wouldn’t stop talking about it if one of their players scored a goal like this, but not Klopp.
The German has incredibly high standards and, in Klopp’s view, spectacular moments seemingly don’t matter that much.
This sort of mentality is why Liverpool players are always looking to improve, and it’s why the Reds could be on course to become Premier League champions once again this season.
