Glasgow Rangers youngster Dapo Mebude continues to impress for the Ibrox side and may soon be edging towards the first-team radar.

It was not difficult to pick out a number of players who impressed in Rangers’ under-20 side’s 6-1 Glasgow Cup win on Monday – but Dapo Mebude was arguably one of those who really stole the show.
The forward scored twice, provided an assist and caused Partick Thistle all sorts of problems with moments of brilliant skill. It was another performance that highlighted why he is one player to keep a keen eye on in the coming years.
Steven Gerrard has kept the path clear for youngsters to break into the first-team. It is now difficult to see Glenn Middleton ever dropping back in Graeme Murty’s ranks unless he needs to build his fitness up at any stage, while Stephen Kelly and Serge Atakayi have been given a chance this term.
Mebude has got plenty of work to do before he is pushing the likes of Alfredo Morelos and Kyle Lafferty. But with Gerrard not having a large number of options available up front, it is not unreasonable to imagine the 17-year-old getting an opportunity at some stage in the near future.

And given that he may soon have a chance of emerging onto the first-team radar, and boasts plenty of potential, perhaps now is the time for Rangers to look into offering Mebude a new contract.
The Daily Record reported that he signed a professional deal in 2017. So an extension may be due.
If Mebude continues to develop at his current rate, it appears inevitable that he will attract attention from elsewhere. Getting his future resolved therefore, could be a very smart move as the club appear to have a seriously exciting prospect on their hands.
