Tottenham Hotspur’s summer window is going from strength to strength.
On Friday, Spurs announced that they had signed Richarlison from Everton in a £60 million deal.
The Brazil international follows Yves Bissouma, Fraser Forster and Ivan Perisic to North London.
Tottenham’s signings this summer are getting progessively better – and progressively more expensive, too.
In Richarlison, Fabio Paratici has signed a proven Premier League player with 48 goals in 173 outings – and when surrounded by much better players than Everton or Watford had to offer, his individual numbers should increase in a major way.
This is someone who can play anywhere across the front-three and with his Brazilian heritage, the 25-year-old has a bag of tricks in his locker as well.
Just ask Matt Doherty, the Tottenham defender who has come up against his new teammate on a number of occasions.
Here’s what the Irishman told Spurs’ official website after the announcement.
He said: “Whenever you have a player who is right-footed and plays off the left – and I’m just speaking from my personal perspective – when a player can go inside and play as a number 10, can play out wide, can beat a man, it’s the worst thing to play against, so it’s very exciting for us.
“He’s versatile and that means a lot – he can pop up in any position, he’s calm, he keeps the ball well and knows how to find the back of the net. We’ve got a few of those players up front, so having another one now is great. He’s a top-class player and we’re very fortunate to have him now.”
It’s that versatility which makes him a nightmare for opposition defences because Doherty is right – Richarlison can hurt a back-four in many different ways and it’ll be fascinating to see just how frightening Antonio Conte’s side are with the former Toffee alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min in attack.
