Hector Bellerin has defended Arsenal’s defeat at Liverpool earlier this week, stating ‘it is the norm’ for opposition teams to falter at Anfield.

Mikel Arteta’s side went down 3-1 to Liverpool on Monday despite taking the lead through Alexandre Lacazette.

It took only three minutes for Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions to hit back through Sadio Mane, before further efforts from Andy Robertson and Diogo Jota confirmed the victory.

The Reds haven’t lost a league game at Anfield since April of 2017, when Crystal Palace left with a 2-1 win.

With Arsenal failing to win there since 2012, the odds were stacked against the North Londoners and their Spanish defender has defended the result.

Bellerin told Goal.com: “Liverpool haven’t lost a game [at Anfield] in the league in years. To be fair, it is the norm to come here and lose nowadays but we made it really, really difficult for them.”

You can’t argue with Bellerin’s logic because, after all, it is the norm and going unbeaten for over three years speaks for itself.

Then again, it isn’t ideal to hear an Arsenal player speaking like that in reference to the defeat.

Yes, Liverpool away is the toughest fixture in the Premier League calendar, but Arteta’s side had won their last two games against Klopp’s troops in all competitions and speaking as if defeat was a foregone conclusion before a ball was kicked might upset some of the Gunners’ fans.
