Have Glasgow Rangers successfully replaced Josh Windass?

Josh Windass’ controversial interview with Open Goal this week displayed many of the traits which Rangers fans despised about him during his time at the club.
Windass was accused by Rangers supporters of not understanding what it meant to represent the Scottish giants.
Rangers fans may feel they are better off without Windass, and their position of second in the league just two points off the top shows they are not missing him.
Where Steven Gerrard’s side are falling short, is replacing his goals from midfield.
Windass scored 13 league goals last season, plus a further five in cup competitions, bringing his tally to 18.
This year Rangers’ top scoring midfielder so far is Scott Arfield, who has a creditable five goals from midfield.

He is a very different type of player to Windass, is less flashy, works harder, and he is on course for his best ever goal tally.
The most Arfield has ever scored in a season is eight goals, so it would be a surprise if he can maintain his current course and match or exceed Windass’ production.
Rangers signed Ovie Ejaria on loan from Liverpool and he is the most direct replacement in style for Windass.
The youngster has played well, but his key weakness appears to be scoring goals. He has only two in 23 games so far.
It’s up to Steven Gerrard and his management team to work out if they have the players already who can score goals from midfield, or whether they need to add new faces in January.
