Christopher Jullien made his full Celtic debut on Tuesday, but he won’t be able to make his Premiership bow this weekend.

The Hoops kick off the defence of their title with a visit of St Johnstone on Saturday.

But Jullien, who impressed in his first game during last night’s Champions League qualifying win over Nomme Kalju, won’t be eligible.

The big French defender, a £7 million signing this summer, picked up a ‘meaningless’ yellow card in Toulouse’ last Ligue 1 game of the season, earning him a suspension that has been carried over.

He told The Record: “I received a yellow card in the last game of Ligue 1. I didn’t realise it would follow me to Scotland but I have to accept I will miss the St Johnstone game.

“I don’t even remember what the booking was for but I know the final game was meaningless so it’s sad.”

It is indeed sad for Jullien, Celtic’s second most expensive signing in history, but Neil Lennon’s side should be alright.

They still have Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic who could resume the brilliant centre-back partnership they forged when Lennon took the reins after Brendan Rodgers quit in February.
