Chris Sutton slammed Raul Jimenez on BBC Radio 5 Live (19/10/20) for kicking out at Robin Koch during Wolves’ 1-0 win at Leeds last night.
The former Premier League striker stated that it was ‘really odd’ that Jimenez wasn’t sent off and questioned if you have to swing a punch to be given your marching orders.
Jimenez was fouled by Koch in the dying minutes of the match, and as the Mexican was falling to the ground, it was quite evident that he had a little poke with his leg towards the Leeds defender as he was going down.
Whilst VAR didn’t intervene and send the Wolves man off, Sutton was pretty clear that Jimenez, who scored the only goal of the game, should have been off.
“I tell you what, this will be an interesting one because what we do know is that you cannot lash out like that,” Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“I’d like to have another look at this. You can imagine now the panic at Stockley Park. I think Jimenez should go for that. I really do.
“Yes, it’s violent conduct. He has had a kick out there. He has kicked out there! Does it matter if you don’t catch him? If you swung a punch at someone would you be sent off? It’s really odd that.”
David Coote was the man in the middle, and it’s fair to say, he has had his fair share of headlines already during this game week after his decisions during the controversial Merseyside derby on Saturday.
In truth, sending Jimenez off wouldn’t have perhaps made a difference given how much time was left on the clock, but it’s still worrying that those making the decisions aren’t able to see such incidents.
Either way, it clearly hasn’t sat well with the Leeds faithful, as they suffered their second defeat of the campaign and they will now take on Aston Villa on Friday night.
