Speaking on his podcast, Phil Hay has suggested that Helder Costa’s days at Leeds United could be numbered after he’s begun to find game time harder to come by in recent weeks.
The winger only joined Leeds on a permanent deal in the summer for £15m after an initial loan spell last season, but the emergence of Ian Poveda and the £17m signing of Raphinha has seen him quickly fall down the pecking order in recent weeks.
Hay was speaking about Costa on the podcast, and he said that he thinks he could soon be on his way out.
“At £15m if Costa isn’t featuring much and if he isn’t getting involved there’d have to become a point where you have to think about that (letting him go),”
The journalist went on to speak about the winger’s absence lately, before getting back onto the topic of Costa possibly leaving the club in the not too distant future.
“It’s possible yeah, I think it’s possible, I think for Costa there’s a bit of a battle to get back involved now, especially because Bielsa seems to have such a high opinion of Poveda, albeit as an impact sub at the moment, but he clearly thinks there’s plenty to come from him.”

Unfortunately, it seems as though Costa could soon find himself at another club.
The Portuguese winger hasn’t really lit up the Premier League since Leeds’ promotion, and if it weren’t for the recent change to nine substitutes in a squad, it’s plausible that he wouldn’t have even been on the bench lately, as he was missing against Newcastle, before the change was made.
January has been touted to be quite a quiet window at Elland Road, but this is a situation that may be worth keeping an eye on.
