‘It’s over’: Sherwood sends warning about Spurs duo & admits he’s unsure about summer signing

Tim Sherwood has made it clear that Tottenham’s Premier League title challenge will be ‘over’ if they lost either Harry Kane or Heung-Min Son to injury, as he told Premier League Productions.

The former Spurs boss expressed his worry at the North London club not being able to keep them injury-free in recent seasons and he admitted that he is unsure about summer signing Carlos Vinicius as their back-up.

Any team in the world would suffer if they lost a player of either Kane or Son’s qualities, but that’s why they have brought back a certain Gareth Bale.

But given that many are backing Spurs to challenge for top honours this term, Sherwood thinks it will be dead in the water if either of their front two ends up in the treatment room.

“I have not seen enough of him [Vinicius],” said Sherwood. “But one thing is for sure if they lose Kane or Son then their fight for the title is over. They are so reliant on them two players.

“They haven’t been able to keep them fit for the last three to four years. Harry Kane has always picked up injuries and so has Son.

On then being told that’s why they have purchased Vinicius: “Will he come in and be the person? I am not sure. At the moment, from what I have seen of him and I have not seen enough of him, I am not sure what he is.”

It needs to be remembered that in previous seasons when Spurs have lost Kane, they have seen Son step up, and not only deliver, but showcase that their boyhood fan hasn’t been a miss.

Jose Mourinho will be hoping that if such a scenario occurs then the other players in the squad can step up, or Bale’s engine is reaching top speed by then.

But one thing is for sure, if Spurs can keep the majority of their attacking line fit and firing then a title challenge and a challenge for all domestic honours is well and truly on.
