Club Olimpia midfielder Braian Ojeda is closing in on a move to Championship side Nottingham Forest, agent Diego Serrati has told Versus Radio.
There’s been a breakthrough at last in Forest’s long-running pursuit of a central midfielder.
Chris Hughton’s bottom-of-the-table side missed out on Matty Longstaff, failed to lure Zian Flemming from Fortuna Sittard and were outbid by Sassuolo for £3 million-rated Dutch U21 international Abdou Harroui.
But while Longstaff and co slipped through Hughton’s grasp, it appears a deal will be reached for Paraguay U23 ace Ojeda, the versatile 21-year-old who can play as a box-to-box dynamo or in a deeper, more defensively minded role in front of the back four.
Is Ojeda the midfielder Nottingham Forest need?
“It is not closed but it is on track and, hopefully for Braian, his family and Paraguayan football, everything will go well. Hopefully we can close the missing details,” says Ojeda’s agent, admitting Eredivisie clubs were also interested in his player.
“There was another possibility from Holland, a formal offer also that arrived last week.

“It is the first time something official has come up from England. We already had a concrete offer on the table, from Holland. The Nottingham Forest thing is what best fits what the player and Olimpia wanted.”
That, then, appears to be that. Ojeda will become a Nottingham Forest player before tonight’s 11pm deadline unless, of course, there’s a nasty sting in the tail.
Then again, when you’re a Nottingham Forest supporter, it’s probably best to expect the unexpected.
It’s understood Ojeda will sign a four-year deal, the transfer setting Forest back about £2 million.
