Speaking on his YouTube channel, Rio Ferdinand has, somewhat begrudgingly, admitted that Arsenal are ahead of Manchester United in their rebuilding process at the moment.

15 years or so ago, Arsenal and United were undoubtedly the two biggest teams in England, but after both finished outside of the top four last season, it’s fair to say that things have changed.

The departures of Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson have hit the clubs hard, and both are now trying to rebuild towards their former glories.

Ferdinand has often championed United over Arsenal, but this time around he had to give his honest verdict on the matter as he was attached to a lie detector machine.

With the lie detector in place, Ferdinand had to concede that Arsenal are in fact ahead of United at the moment.

What’s been said?

Ferdinand was asked about the two English giants.

“Are Arsenal ahead of Manchester United in their rebuilding process?” Ferdinand was asked.

“Yes, they are they are, we have a new manager it’s obvious, we have a new manager who has to implement his ideas, we’re going to be behind you in that sense,” Ferdinand said.

The truth

It will have pained Ferdinand to admit this, but the truth is that Arsenal are way ahead of Manchester United in their rebuild stage.

The Gunners are about to head into their fourth season under Mikel Arteta, while Erik ten Hag hasn’t managed a single competitive game for the Red Devils yet.

As for rebuilding the squad. Arsenal have addressed most of their key areas this summer, Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Fabio Vieira have continued the process of recruiting talented young players, while William Saliba looks ready to be a star.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have struggled to land their number one target – Frenkie De Jong, while their three key recruits; Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia, may not even be first-choice in their respective positions.

Arsenal have made greater steps in the right direction than United.
