Phil Hay has told the Athletic’s Youtube channel that it is looking ‘increasingly likely’ that Gjanni Alioski will leave Leeds United this summer.
Alioski has played regularly for Leeds this season at left-back, with the North Macedonian international seemingly part of Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice squad.
However, his contract is set to expire in the summer – and Leeds have still not agreed new terms.
While it is not out of the question that Alioski does commit his future, it is apparently looking more and more likely that he will depart.
And even if he does stay Leeds appear to be lining up an upgrade at left-back.
He said: “They will try and find themselves a first-choice left-back. That’s a position that has never really picked itself under Bielsa. They have had Barry Douglas there, they have had Alioski there this season, and it looks increasingly likely that he will go at the end of his contract when the season finishes.

“But even if he doesn’t I still think they will want a specialist in that role.”
If Alioski does leave it may disappoint some Leeds supporters and players, as he is a very popular player.
The 29-year-old’s commitment and passion has shone through during his time at Elland Road.
But Leeds’ ambition is shown by their desire to upgrade in potential positions of weakness.
And it will be interesting to see which target Marcelo Bielsa and Victor Orta have in mind, as they look to recruit a new full-back.
