Brendan Rodgers would have liked to have brought more players into Celtic during the summer.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers spoke exclusively to Celtic TV ahead of his side’s clash with Hamilton tomorrow, and admitted that he was frustrated with the Hoops board following disagreements over the club’s summer transfer business, or lack thereof.
The Glasgow giants currently sit at the top fo the Scottish Premiership table, but it could be argued that Rodgers’ side have actually regressed this season, after what was a fairly underwhelming summer transfer window.
Celtic are still expected to go on and win their eighth consecutive league title this season, but their struggles on the continent have highlighted the fact that Rodgers was not sufficiently backed during the off-season.
The Hoops boss spoke exclusively to Celtic TV ahead of his side’s trip to Hamilton tomorrow, and suggested that he and the Celtic board have not always agreed on key issues:
“It’s not rocket science. I’m not one that can hide it very well, I wasn’t hiding it very well at all. There was a natural frustration because as a manager and leader of the team, you want to continue pushing forward. But you come away and review and reflect. What’s great about my relationship with the board is that, when you work so closely together, it’s only human that you won’t always agree. If you work closely with people you’re not always going to agree.”
It will be interesting to see whether Celtic sign any new players in January, and if Rodgers is to remain at Parkhead for the long term, the Hoops board quite simply have to start backing him to the hilt.
