Kieran Trippier has opened up about being booed by Tottenham Hotspur fans during his days at the club and how it affected him, as he told Vibe with Five.
The Newcastle United defender shared that it happened after the 2018 World Cup with England when he struggled during the second half of the campaign.
The 32-year-old shared how he would get ‘booed by my own fans’ when he was taking corners and how ‘it’s not nice’ to experience such a thing.

At the 2018 World Cup, Trippier was one of England’s best players and it’s probably a tournament that really kickstarted a career that saw him win the La Liga title with Atletico Madrid when Daniel Levy allowed him to leave north London in 2019.
Since then, he has returned to England where he is now cooking in the colours of Newcastle United, who have been one of the best teams in the division this season.
That’s the high of being in the limelight, with Trippier, who made 114 appearances in the colours of Spurs, speaking about some of the lows.
“When the World Cup, in 2018, I was in the media quite a lot,” said Trippier. “At the time, I didn’t know how to handle that maybe.
“In the first half of the season, I felt I did well, then in the second half, it was like a car crash. I was being questioned in the media. I was getting criticised. From when I was taking a corner at Tottenham. A section of my own fans booing me and stuff. And it’s not nice.
“At the moment, I didn’t know how to deal with it. I didn’t want to really speak to anybody about it. I felt embarrassed by speaking out. It was tough that, the second half of the season was tough, but I was getting picked every game by Pochettino still.
“It’s not like I wasn’t going into every game giving 100%, I was. I was giving silly mistakes away. I remember Marcus (Rashford) scored and we got beat at Wembley. I scored an own goal against Chelsea, it was a great finish.”

TRIPPIER HAS NOT YET BEEN REPLACED BY SPURS
Yes, Pedro Porro has walked through the doors, but the January capture is yet to start, so it’s not known what he is going to produce.
But, one thing is for sure, from Serge Aurier to Emerson Royal, the man now bossing Newcastle’s right flank hasn’t been replaced in north London yet.
Spurs fans will be hoping that Porro, who arrived from Sporting Lisbon on deadline day, can end all that because many names have been used in that role without any consistent success.
