Speaking to Liverpool FC’s official YouTube channel, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has opened up on how Curtis Jones is treated at the club.
The gaffer said that Jones isn’t counted in the same cohort as the other young players due to the fact he is so embedded within the first-team these days.
We’ve seen a number of young players emerge at Anfield this term, such as Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips, but because Jones has had more experience than them, he doesn’t seem to be getting the same treatment these days.
“I’ve told the other guys already, to be 100 per cent honest at the moment, we don’t count Curtis in the young players, it’s not fair but it’s true,” Klopp said.
“It was an exceptional performance, very mature, there’s a lot to come and a lot to improve, but he’s already pretty ok. He’s a good kid and I’m happy to have him around.“

The fact that Jones isn’t being treated as though he’s a young player may not technically be fair, but it’s probably what’s for the best for his development.
He’s now being judged to the same high standards as some of the best footballers in the world, and if he has the right mentality and drive that sort of treatment should see him excel.
The midfielder is certainly up to the task, scoring the Reds’ only goal in their 1-0 win over Ajax on Tuesday evening.
Hopefully, the 19-year-old can produce these types of performances on a more regular basis as Liverpool could have one midfield spot sorted for the next decade if he reaches his touted potential.
