Celtic target Benjamin Siegrist believes Dundee United will not stand in his way if the Hoops-linked goalkeeper decides to leave the Scottish Premiership outfit, speaking to the Daily Record.
After Vasilis Barkas suffered the season from hell during his debut Parkhead campaign, Celtic can add finding a new number one to their lengthy to-do list.
And, after paying £5 million to bring Barkas over from AEK Athens, the early signs suggest that the Glasgow giants will look closer to home this time around.
Ofir Marciano has already been linked with his Hibernian contract expiring in July.
Siegrist, however, has a further 12 months left on his deal, though Dundee United may be tempted to sell this summer rather than lose their star man on a free in 2022.
“It’s nice there is a bit of speculation and that happens when you’re on form,” the foremr Aston Villa youngster said when asked about his Dundee United future.
“The communication between me and Tony (Asghar, sporting director) has always been that if the right opportunity comes then they’ll do right by the player.
“At the same time, I am always thankful that I have established myself here in the Premiership. It’s a two-way street, the club has put trust in me over the last couple of seasons and I’d like to think I have paid that back.”
Reading between the lines, it seems that an agreement is in place, one that will see Siegrist depart on good terms should an acceptable offer arrive during the summer transfer window.
Speaking back in December, Siegrist’s agent told The Mail that Celtic had scouted the 29-year-old on a number of occasions.
Dundee United are understood to value their highly-rated shot-stopper at around £1 million.
