Jack Wilshere has admitted in public that he would absolutely love to join Arsenal – even ahead of Manchester City.

In recent months, Wilshere has been training with Arsenal on a regular basis for the purpose of staying fit after being released by Bournemouth this past summer.

In addition to that, the 29-year-old midfielder has also been working closely with the Gunners’ Under-23 players.

Mikel Arteta, manager of the senior team at London Colney, said on Friday that Wilshere has ‘unquestionable‘ ability and said he was absolutely certain that he could still play at Premier League level, having last played in the Championship.

And speaking on Friday, Wilshere, who began his career with Arsenal, told talkSPORT that he would re-sign for his boyhood outfit in a heartbeat, even if Pep Guardiola phoned him to join the Premier League champions.

He said: “If both Pep and Mikel Arteta rang me tomorrow, if they both offered me three-year contracts then I’m going to Arsenal. It’s my club and I want to get them back to where they belong.”

Is Wilshere joining Arsenal?

Well, unfortunately for Wilshere, probably not.

After his latest comments, there’s no doubt that he himself would jump at a transfer to the Emirates Stadium.

But the truth is that really, Arteta, despite being a massive supporter of him, doesn’t need him.

Arsenal have an abundance of midfield options and squeezing Wilshere into the squad makes zero sense unless an injury crisis struck.

The romantic Arsenal supporters would love to see it but, truthfully, it doesn’t have legs.
