Kevin Campbell told the Highbury Squad Podcast that it’s ‘madness’ that William Saliba hasn’t kicked a ball for Arsenal’s senior side.

The 20-year-old was purchased by Arsenal during the summer transfer window of 2019 when Unai Emery was in the dugout.

And during that period, the highly-rated Frenchman has had several loan spells, yet not a single minute of action for the team that owns him.

Highbury legend, Campbell, shared his thoughts on the Saliba situation, who is now set to spend next season at Marseille.

“If he wanted to be in London, he would say ‘I’m not going on loan, I am staying here because I know I can get into the team’,” said Campbell.

“But he has never done that. He keeps going back to France – Saliba has had three managers and he’s not kicked a ball for the club.

“It’s madness. But he’s young. And young players need stability.”

Mikel Arteta didn’t purchase the player, so he’s not going to be expected to lay down the red carpet for the ball-playing defender.

However, from Matteo Guendouzi to Saliba, the Spanish coach is making some big, bold and brave calls.

If any of them come back to bite him in the back next season then, more than likely, he won’t be Arsenal manager for much longer.

Arteta may have survived last season, but there’s no way those same performances will be accepted when the new campaign kicks off in August.
