Simon Jordan doesn’t seem happy about the idea of Eddie Howe getting to choose his own Director of Football at Celtic.
The Scottish Sun reported on Monday that the Hoops could officially name Howe as Neil Lennon’s long-term successor this week, following a lot of speculation.
Nicky Hammond quit his role as Director of Football Operations last week and given his role in recruitment in recent years, Celtic will need a replacement for him, too.
According to The Record, the 43-year-old wants to bring Richard Hughes to Parkhead with him after the two worked together at Bournemouth down South.
But Jordan, speaking to talkSPORT, has claimed that it might be an example of Howe being allowed too much power too soon, describing it as ‘lunacy.
He said: “I was just checking that I heard that right, that Eddie Howe wants to determine who the director of football will be. Isn’t that a sort of juxtaposition? Why doesn’t he choose which chief executive he wants to bring in and maybe the chairman as well?
“The director of football works for the club, he sits above the manager and not alongside the manager’s requests for appointment. If that is the world we are going into, it is lunacy.”
If and when Howe is appointed as Celtic manager, he’ll need to get to work immediately.
Rangers, who have already won the Scottish Premiership for the first time in 10 years, are 20 points clear of their Old Firm rivals in the table, illustrating the gulf in class between them this season.
And with legendary captain Scott Brown leaving at the end of this campaign, Howe has a lot of work to do.
