Speaking to Football London, Japhet Tanganga has been discussing the recent transfer speculation linking him with a move away from Tottenham.

The defender jetted off to South Korea for Spurs’ pre-season tour while some other linked-away stars were left at home to find moves away from north London.

Tanganga has been strongly linked with a transfer this summer, but the defender isn’t paying much notice to any rumours, stating that they’re nothing more than just speculation that he doesn’t read too much into.

What’s been said?

Tanganga spoke about his future.

“It’s just speculation and I don’t read too much into speculation. My focus is I’m just happy to be back, being injury free and helping the team as much as I can and be ready when I’m called upon,” he said.

“It’s about being ready. There was a period when Cristian Romero was injured and the manager called upon me to play in that position. I’m just grateful to play as many games as possible and I’m just happy to play whenever the manager wants me to.”

Good option

Tanganga seems to be ready to be a depth option, and, to be honest, he’d be a great option for Tottenham from the bench.

The defender may not be Spurs’ first-choice, but let’s not forget, he’s a very talented player in his own right, and he’s also incredibly versatile.

He can play across the back three, while he’s also put a shift in at right wing-back in the past, and as a homegrown player, Spurs will surely be able to find space for him.

Tanganga may leave Spurs, but if he stays, he’ll be a very good depth option.
