Newcastle United need to spend in January, according to the Sky Sports pundit.
Sky Sports pundit Matt Le Tissier shared what he believes the Magpies need to do during the January transfer window in order to strengthen their squad, when writing a column for Sky Sports.
The Toon are currently sitting precariously in 16th position in the Premier League table, just one point clear of 18th placed West Ham United, and Rafa Benitez has made no secret of his desire to improve upon his options this month.
Newcastle have been limp in front of goal this season, and the Spaniard will surely be looking to add more firepower to his ranks this month.
Le Tissier certainly went along with that notion, when writing a column for Sky Sports, highlighting the Magpies’ need for an established hitman:
“I think they need a centre-forward as Joselu hasn’t really done it and Dwight Gayle is a bit hit and miss, and then, like a few sides, they need more contributions from midfield. Their top goal scorers have three goals after 20 games, which is just shocking. Then a top-drawer goalkeeper would help, no disrespect to Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow. If Rafael Benitez gets those reinforcements he needs then you would back him to keep them in the Premier League but they are in trouble otherwise.”
Newcastle have a busy month ahead of them, with five games to be played over the course of the next 31 days, so Benitez will surely be looking to get any kind of transfer business done as early as possible, in the hope of guiding his side away from trouble.
And if the Spaniard does manage to bring in a top class centre-forward and a goalkeeper, as suggested by Le Tissier, the Magpies would surely be in a strong position from which to mount a sustained push for a place inside the top 10 of the table.
