‘It’s just a game’: Sterling sends message to Liverpool fans, some respond

Raheem Sterling has moved to calm some angry Liverpool fans on Twitter after his brilliant performance against their side on Thursday night.

Sterling inspired Manchester City to a 4-0 demolition of the newly-crowned Premier League champions.

This was Liverpool’s first game since officially winning the title last week and Pep Guardiola’s side well and truly brought them back to earth last night.

It wasn’t only the scoreline that frustrated fans of the Anfield club; it was who orchestrated it.

Sterling left Liverpool to join the Etihad Stadium club in the summer of 2015, having been one of the Reds’ best players at the time.

The 25-year-old has a lot of history with the Merseyside outfit, but there was no room for sentiment from Sterling as he ruthlessly exposed the visitors’ defence time and again.

He won the penalty that led to Kevin de Bruyne opening the scoring, before adding a second himself shortly after that.

Some Liverpool fans were slating their former son on Twitter after the game. Here’s Sterling’s response and how Reds’ supporters reacted to it on social media:
