What a horrible night it was for Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday.
Not only did Spurs lose 3-1 to Liverpool in North London, but Harry Kane, their best player, went off injured at half time.
This is a major concern for Tottenham because in addition to being the club’s top goalscorer this season and Jose Mourinho’s best chance of silverware, Kane also has a long history of ankle injuries – and this was another one.
It remains to be seen how long the 27-year-old is sidelined for, but Clive Allen, assistant manager to former Lilywhites boss Harry Redknapp, has revealed on talkSPORT it’s ‘just a fact’ that the red-hot marksman won’t come back as the same player due to scar tissue on his ankle.
He said: “He’s injured the ankles a few times now and there will be scar tissue there. He won’t be the same, it’s just a fact.
“I’ve had ankle injuries and they’re never quite the same, never as stable as they were before. It’s a real concern. Hopefully he’s not out for too long.”
This is, quite frankly, a pretty terrifying claim by Allen.
Kane, who has had five ankle injuries in the past, is one of Europe’s best players and 33 goals and assists in 29 games for Tottenham this season illustrates as much.
At 27, he’s also coming into the peak years of his football career and it’d just be a massive shame if these recurring ankle problems wind up diluting his potency.
