John Aldridge has suggested on Twitter that Joel Matip may not be at Liverpool next season after the signing of Ibrahima Konate.

Liverpool have announced the signing of French central defender Konate from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window.

Former Liverpool striker Aldridge believes that the Reds now have too many centre-backs on their books, and that Matip could go due to his injury problems.

Matip missed a chunk of this season due to injury problems.

The 29-year-old has had injury problems throughout his time at Liverpool.

When fit and available, the Cameroonian has done well for the Reds.

However, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp simply cannot rely on him to stay fit all the time.

With Konate now joining the Reds, Klopp has a lot of options at centre-back.

Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Matip, Rhys Williams, Nathaniel Phillips, Konate and Ben Davies are the options at the back.

Surely, Liverpool manager Klopp cannot include all of them in matchday squads.

It would make sense for the former Premier League champions to sell one or two centre-backs, or maybe send them out on loan.

Davies has not played at all for Liverpool since his move from Preston North End in the January transfer window.

Williams is very young and could be loaned out.
