Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been chatting to Michail Antonio about his period of rest during the international break.
Antonio had the chance to play for Jamaica over the last fortnight, but after a gruelling run of fixtures with West Ham and the fact that the Reggae Boyz now can’t qualify for the World Cup, Antonio decided to stay at home and rest up.
Wilson believes that this period of rest will help Antonio get back to his best form, stating that it’s inevitable that he will now start scoring again.
What’s been said?
Wilson told Antonio that he’s going to start bagging goals once more.
“You will come back after this international break now, and I have no doubts at all, you will start scoring goals at a good rate again, at the rate you were beforehand,” Wilson said.
“That mental reset, people don’t realise how important those four days will be, in terms of your body thanking you and mentally switching off. I have an issue on my hands now because I have a bet with you and I don’t want you to score, but it’s inevitable that after that recharge it helps so much.”

Recharge
As Wilson says, that mental recharge at this stage of the season could be so important for a player like Antonio.
The striker was in red-hot form at the start of the campaign when he was fully fit and fully rested, but as the weeks have gone by, his performances have dipped slightly.
Luckily though, he’s now had the chance to rest and recuperate, and as Wilson says, he should be in a good physical and mental state to come back and start bagging goals.
