Callum Wilson says the situation involving loaned-out Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who was linked with Tottenham Hotspur this summer, is ‘incredible’.

The 30-year-old has fallen off a cliff ever since he made a second return to Chelsea in 2021, even with a loan spell at Inter last season not really working out, with Newcastle hitman Callum Wilson stating that he can still score goals, as he told The Footballers Football Show.

Many expected Romelu Lukaku to go back to Inter, but as the summer drew on, it became clear that was not going to happen, with the hard-hitting striker now working with ex-Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.

Interestingly enough, when Antonio Conte was in the Tottenham dugout, added with Harry Kane’s exit this summer, the Belgian star was linked with a move to Spurs.

Perhaps to the relief of Spurs fans, and even probably the player himself, nothing materialised.

But with Chelsea struggling to score goals in the Premier League this season, they haven’t netted in their past three matches, it has resulted in Callum Wilson questioning why Romelu Lukaku isn’t at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku at Chelsea

“I think they still have Lukaku on their books,” said Wilson. “It is incredible because he is an out-and-out goalscorer.

“The kind of striker I am talking about (that Chelsea need). He’s not going to play pretty football. But he will bully defenders and stick the ball into the back of the net.

“Ultimately, that’s what Chelsea are missing. They scored five goals this season, I see. That’s unlike Chelsea with the money that they spent.”

Lukaku falling off

The once-teenage wonderkid needs to pick himself up as soon as possible, or else, his career will continue to decline.

Injuries didn’t help him at Inter last season, but when he was given those chances at Chelsea, he didn’t take them, so he also needs to look at himself.

If things don’t work out at Roma, then it’s hard to see top European clubs wanting to take him on board.
