Brendan Rodgers has stated that it’s been ‘hard’ for reported Tottenham and Leeds target Demarai Gray, as he told his press conference.
It’s understandable why the Birmingham-born attacker will be finding things difficult, at this moment in time, because he has only played 18 minutes of Premier League football.
Gray’s contract at the King Power will expire in the summer and journalist Duncan Castle’s did previously tell the Transfer Window Podcast that he’s been told that he will head to Tottenham when his current deal ends.
But those in London aren’t the only ones chasing the light-footed winger because, over in Yorkshire, the Daily Mirror’s paper edition on January 5 (page 47) claim that Leeds are leading the chasing for Gray.
Either way, it seems as though he is free to leave this month if a club can be found, as Rodgers praised the 24-year-old’s work on the training ground despite his lack of game time.
“You here of players out there that stop working hard, they stop training and they become really difficult to get a move,” said Rodgers. “Absolutely couldn’t be further from the truth [with Gray].
“He’s a good guy. He comes in. It’s hard for him. He’s never been in this situation before.
“But whilst he is still here at the club, we will still respect his work. He’ll respect how we work and train.”
It’s quick to forget that Gray has a Premier League medal in his cabinet after he made the genius decision to move to Leicester from Birmingham six months before they were going to lift the title.
Of course he knew the unthinkable was going to happen!
But since that unforgettable campaign, his form, game time and progression on the big stage has started to regress.
Gray needs picking up and with this silky style with the ball, both Tottenham and Leeds would welcome him with open arms.
But it’s obvious that heading to Elland Road would be the better option because that’s where he can get minutes under his belt.
