‘It’s going to be in January’: Club legend makes Arsenal transfer claim about ‘top player’

Kevin Campbell thinks Arsenal can get a transfer deal for Youri Tielemans done in January because ‘that’s the only chance’ the Foxes have got.

Whilst Mikel Arteta has Arsenal sitting proudly at the top of the Premier League table after six games, it’s rock bottom for the under-fire Brendan Rodgers at the King Power Stadium.

To make matters worse for the Midlands club, one of their key players in Tielemans has less than 12 months left on his contract and it’s pretty clear that he won’t sign on the dotted line.

That means he can sign a pre-contract agreement with a team outside of England, then leave on a free next summer.

Or, the best case scenario for Arsenal is that Leicester opt to get as much money as they can for him in the winter, and they will be one of the main teams fronting the queue given their long-standing interest in the technician.

Despite Leicester’s troubles and Tielemans’ drop in form of late, Campbell still thinks he is a ‘top player’, as he told the Highbury Squad.

“We might see a pre-contract with Tielemans,” said Campbell. “If we want him, if ever Leicester are going to do the business, then it’s going to be January. That’s the only chance they have got.

“You’re not going to be now (convinced by Tielemans) because it’s all falling apart at Leicester. He’s a top player, who is in a bad situation. That’s the bottom line.

“Could he help us? 100%. With the players he is playing with, I think he goes back to that level. If he was playing out of his skin every week, then somebody else would have probably signed him.”

TIELEMANS OR DOUGLAS LUIZ OR BOTH?

Arsenal might hit the jackpot next summer, or miss out on two high-quality players that they have expressed interest in signing.

On transfer deadline day, Aston Villa turned down several bids from Arsenal for Douglas Luiz, who is also out-of-contract next summer at Villa Park.

Arteta could be in a situation where two midfielders, ready to hit their prime, arrive on the club’s doorstep for no transfer fee and are ready to negotiate a contract.

Or, they end up elsewhere because it’s financially easier for another team to sign them and then there will be serious questions asked as to how those in the boardroom have let this all slip.
