Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has discussed his start to life at Elland Road.

Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that his first three months with the club have been going slowly, but ultimately in the right direction.

The Whites saw off Burnley on penalties in Tuesday’s Carabao Cup tie at Turf Moor, with Leeds winning 5-3 on spot kicks after a dramatic 2-2 draw in 120 minutes.

One of the players to convert his penalty in the shoot-out was midfielder Klich, which was no major surprise given that he regularly took penalties for FC Twente.

The Poland international, 27, joined Leeds from Dutch side Twente back in June, having impressed with the Eredivisie outfit following a 2016 from Kaiserslauten.

Whilst many expected Klich to come in and start in midfield, his start to the season has been a little more understated, having suffered with a muscle injury during pre-season.

Three of Klich’s five appearances for Leeds have come in the Carabao Cup, whilst he has played just 43 minutes of Championship action across two substitute appearances in the early stages of this season.

Klich will be hoping to really kick on after his display and spot kick against Leeds, and he has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that his Leeds career is ‘going slowly’, but he feels he is heading in the right direction after his pre-season injury.

Klich added that he was tired after having to play 120 minutes on Tuesday night, which is to be expected given the lack of playing time he has received otherwise, and he will be hoping to make his first Championship start soon.

“It’s going slowly for me but in a good direction,” Klich said. “There’s no pressure. After two months here, everything is good after injury. I didn’t really have a pre-season but I feel better and better with every game.”

“It would have been nice to play 90 minutes (on Tuesday) and not 120 because both us and Burnley have a game on Saturday. But if you have to play 120, you play. I was tired, of course, but everyone was,” he added.
