Speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has raved over Liverpool youngster Curtis Jones, claiming that he’s going under the radar.
Wright was understandably very impressed by Jones’ performance against RB Leipzig earlier this week, and he gave him a glowing review on his podcast.
“You know, Curtis Jones you know, I think he’s going too under the radar. They gave the Man of the Match to Kabak, obviously Kabak played well and you’re going to get that because he’s 20 and he’s come in a position for Liverpool where they need somebody to come in and stand tall, and I thought he did, but they were strikerless,” Wright said.
“But Curtis Jones, the way he continuously closed down Kampl. And just closed everything down, good passes and stuff like that.”
Wright’s compliments for Jones didn’t stop their either, as he went on to speak about him again later in the podcast:
“This is why we mentioned someone like Curtis Jones, and I mentioned Kabak getting Man of the Match, he played well, but the way Curtis Jones has slipped into that Liverpool side, that all-conquering Liverpool side, ok they’ve been going through a spell at the moment, because City are just amazing, so seamlessly. It’s frightening how well he’s slipped in there playing Champions League football as if he’s been playing it for the last 10 years.”
Jones is going under the radar, but the best players often do.
Usually, you’d see a young player making headlines and taking everyone by surprise, but Jones just looks as though he’s a veteran who’s been doing this for years.
He’s playing at a level beyond his years, and he should really be getting more recognition for it.
Every week we’re hearing about young English players shining in the Premier League with the likes of Phil Foden and Harvey Barnes grabbing all of the headlines, but perhaps there should be more of a spotlight on Jones.
