Mason Mount has dealt Eddie Howe a huge blow to the Newcastle United gaffer’s interest in a transfer from Chelsea, as the England midfielder expects ‘exciting’ contract talks soon.
The 23-year-old has become a target for a number of Premier League clubs in line with his displays for club and country. But Mount has told Sky Sports that is keen to start discussing extending his Stamford Bridge spell with new Blues owner Todd Boehly in the near future.

Mount still has another two years to go on the £88k-a-week contract agreed in 2019 under Roman Abramovich’s tenure. Yet the 31-cap Three Lions maestro sees no other clubs in his medium-to-long-term future after producing his best top-flight campaign to date last term.
Newcastle among clubs interested in Mount after best Prem season to date
Thomas Tuchel coached Mount to 11 goals and 10 assists from 32 Premier League matches through 2021/22. He had scored seven and six goals in each of the previous two terms and offered six assists in both. The midfielder also played 37 and 36 times in ‘19/20 and ‘20/21.
Now, The Sun report Newcastle are interested in signing Mount, as Howe is a big fan of the Chelsea product. Manchester City and Liverpool also kept tabs on his situation earlier this year whilst Boehly sought to purchase the west London side from Abramovich for £4.25bn.
Erik ten Hag taking charge of Manchester United has also seen the Red Devils enter the list of interested clubs, per The Sun. He is keeping a close eye on the Portsmouth-born star’s contractual situation, and has informed the playmaker’s camp of his admiration, as well.
Mount to snub rival move in favour of new Chelsea contract
But despite being courted by three of the Premier League’s established big six, plus Saudi-backed Newcastle, Mount is prepared to snub rival interest to sign a new Chelsea contract. He also expects to hold initial talks with Boehly over possible new terms in the near future.
“I’ve got two years [remaining on my current terms], but I’m extremely happy at this club,” Mount explained. “I’ve been here since [I was] six years old, so I think maybe over the next couple of months the talks will start. So, obviously, it’s exciting. Every new year is special.”
