Ilkay Gundogan told Sky Sports that ‘it’s exciting’ that Manchester City’s League Cup final showdown with Tottenham will have supporters present.
With government restrictions being lifted, it was announced that both Tottenham and the current holders will be able to have 2000 fans each at Wembley on April 25, as reported by BBC Sport.
It provides that added little motivation and push for the players, who have been used to playing in front of sways of empty seats for months and months now.
Nonetheless, Gundogan was asked to share his thought on the news, which broke on Tuesday.
“It’s exciting,” said the £20 million midfielder. “I think this season we have had one game where there was a crowd and that was away at Southampton.
“I must admit that, after such a long while without fans, it was weird to have them back in the stadium, even though there were just 2000 people. But it was kind of a weird feeling again.
“So, I guess it’s a feeling we need to get used to again. But, obviously, not just for the people coming into the stadium.
“Also, for us, it will be great to have them back and the atmosphere is the reason why we play football.”

Gundogan scored the last time Man City played Tottenham in the Premier League as more of that type of showing will only result in one team walking up those Wembley steps.
But even though this has been an indifferent and largely troublesome season for Spurs, this is Jose Mourinho’s meat and drink.
It has been nearly two decades since Tottenham lifted any silverware and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Mourinho does the job in a few weeks time.
