Peter Schmeichel slammed Hugo Lloris for letting in an ‘easy’ goal during Tottenham Hotspur’s 1-1 draw against Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday night, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (26/10/22 at 10:15 pm).
Marcus Edwards came back to haunt his former club yesterday when his long-range effort opened the scoring in north London, after his driving run through Tottenham’s midfield.
Lloris had a clear view of the shot, but the effort, from outside of the box, didn’t even leave the surface as it hit the bottom right-hand corner.

That was the last thing Lloris needed because, during his previous home game, he was also at fault for both of the goals Newcastle United scored during their 2-1 win.
Well, that Edwards strike ended up proving to be costly because, on a controversial night that saw Harry Kane’s stoppage-time winner ruled out for offside, Antonio Conte’s side travel to Marseille next week needing a point to qualify for the knockout stages.
Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel, who is perhaps the greatest keeper of the Premier League era, had this to say about Lloris’ mistake yesterday.
“Sporting had a lot of chances in this game,” said Schmeichel. “They ended up scoring the first goal, Marcus Edwards, who was in the Tottenham academy and he was scoring against his old club.
“I think the goalkeeper, he should save it. Lloris is a good goalkeeper. Later on, he is making a few good saves, but he is letting in easy goals. It’s easy shots like that which go in.”

LLORIS’S SITUATION IS A WORRY
The issue Spurs have is that, at the end of the year, Lloris turns 36 and they don’t really have a replacement to take his place, as of this moment.
Fraser Forster, who left Southampton in the summer, was brought in on a free transfer and he’s currently a year younger than the Frenchman.
Those in the Tottenham boardroom should have purchased a younger keeper to push Lloris this season because, if he continues to make mistakes, then he will need to be dropped.
Given that he dons the captain’s armband, then that might not happen, but Spurs aren’t exactly being pro-active in this situation.
