Sam Allardyce told Sky Sports News (28/06/21 at 9:05 am) that Farhad Moshiri has built expectations ‘so high’ at Everton that it has become ‘difficult’ for players to live with that.

Everton have been free-spending since Moshiri took the reigns at Goodison Park, but it hasn’t resulted in the club moving forward.

The first ambition has been to play European football, but the Toffees, who also had Allardyce as their manager for a brief period, haven’t even managed that.

Allardyce thinks the Toffees have been ‘desperate’ for success since Moshiri took charge and he urged the club to stick with one manager so some much-needed ‘stability’ can be brought to the table.

“Everton have been desperate for success since Farhad Moshiri took over, who I have a lot of time for,” said Allardyce.

“He has put a huge amount of money in that’s built the expectation of Everton so high that it’s difficult for the players that are there already to actually live with that.

“You have seen, it’s I think six managers in seven years at Everton and that needs to be brought to a stability in terms of the manager staying in place for two or three years to get it right.”

Well, can Rafa Benitez be the one who provides Everton with that stability because it seems as though he will be the one taking charge at Everton?

His expected appointment will be met with a lot of differing opinions because of his Liverpool past.

But, at the end of the day, football supporters are fickle and if he does the business out on the pitch then a lot will be forgotten about.

A lot has been spent on this current crop of Everton players, but there isn’t much belief that many of them can take the club forward.

Benitez may have been limited to his spending at Newcastle, but that might not be the case with Everton, who have a far more ambitious owner.
